The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
Re: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
When I worked for a travel company in CPT we had a couple of 'famous' (by local standards) customers. One was a 'singer' who thought the sun shone out of his backside. He was most upset when I didn't know who he was, or how to spell his name. My colleagues thought I'd done it deliberately to annoy him.
Wilbur Smith was also one of our customers, a very pleasant and unassuming gentleman. The first time I met him he introduced himself, not self-importantly presuming I would know who he was, and was delighted when I told him I'd read nearly all his books and which was my favourite.
As Oscar Wilde said : "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

His face was a picture. One moment 'I don't want to be pestered by fans' next moment one of annoyance that no one recognised him.
Love to walk past him or her in the park and not recognise them.

Dunno how true this is but one Yank expat in my old mob related how he was walking through a LAX gate lounge when some woman strode up and asked if the trip to NY will be smooth. One was a 'singer' who thought the sun shone out of his backside
“Yes I believe it will be.”
“Do you know who I am?”
“No.”
“I’M JANET JACKSON!”
“That’s nice. Enjoy your flight ma’am.”
Apparently she’s a real bitch in dire need of a good butt thrash.
Re: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
Was operating a BA LGW-MAN shuttle some years back when a terribly excited steward rushed onto the flight deck during boarding to gasp to us that "Ronan Keating was on board". "Thank you" I said, "but I don't watch Eastenders".
Much hilarity once the door had closed....

Who is Ronan Keating?
You only live twice. Once when you're born. Once when you've looked death in the face.
Re: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
Does your computer have Google? I think he was in 'Eastenders' (qv).

Nah, he's a footballer for the West Indies and he plays prop forward.

His actual position is 'inside out'.Capetonian wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 11:01 amNah, he's a footballer for the West Indies and he plays prop forward.

Tottenham.
Then the other one I saw, similar vintage, usually saw him on the BBC when I think a 15 inch screen was large. His face always filled the screen. In real life he had a 15 inch screen face . Unlike PA he just looked happy.

Re: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex
A long time ago i flew from LAX to LHR and Carole Baker (some will remember her ) was sat next to me. We enjoyed a pleasant flight with lots of chat a really nice person and she never really indicated that she was in the film business. She joined looking quite scruffy wearing a headscarf and a long knitted coat and about half an hour before landing she got up picked up a posh carrier bag and said "I will have to get changed now and went to the bathroom" Ten minutes later she came back looking a million dollars wearing a silk dress, snakeskin shoes with hair and makeup perfect.
I said that i couldn't believe how she had changed so quickly and she just said,"Well if we cant do it in our business then who can"
The paparazzi were waiting at the gate and she went straight into film star mode.

As I often do, I fell asleep on the sofa with the TV on last night. I woke up to the voice and sight of a presentable looking and decently spoken American male in his 70s. It turned out to be the father of the Meghan woman. I was quite surprised as he was not what I had imagined.

And it works in reverse too Cape.
Get to know how damn smart and intelligent my boy is then shake your head in utter disbelief that it was me who sired him!
