Mike Beachy Head (RIP) used to do that with the Lightning over Cape Town. One afternoon my better half and were on top of Lions Head and he blatzed in over the City Bowl and couldn't have been higher than 400 feet. We were looking down on the aircraft from the mountain above.... totally illegal of course but nobody batted an eyelid.

PHX ... Really? I grew up with that at Airshows...think someone discovered by accident, but had been a RAAF 'Party Trick' for years....it was really a 'Thing' to be at an airshow and witness it, then fell the actual heat on your face...magnificent!!...
Anyway...this is a fascinating website set up by Ex Pig Drivers...

Re: We miss our Pigs....
And this is the dreadfully sad end to our 'Pigs'...apparently when we purchased them Waaay back, it ws agreed with the American Government that we would destroy them at the end of their 'lives', "Pigzbum' shows copies of the decommission statements, there are a few left in Museums / Gate Guards etc.
But I never knew why if they became too expensive for the Australian Government to keep them flying, hoe the hell could they ever fall into 'enemy' hands!?!?!

Re: We miss our Pigs....
.....very sad....I kinda know where they are...but I could not pin point it, in any case they are 120ft deep now...interesting he mentions 'parts could not be souvenired' ... I reclon a LOT of people who have already paid for the aircraft through their taxes would still be willing to pay a few $ more for a 2 inch square of fuselage as a momento...he seems to be boastful of destroying these F-111s....
