The World groans under the weight of the bloody pandemic.
The economic ramifications are truly massive.

The UK wins gold in BMX bike.

Well you can download and watch all the Government press briefings with attendant slides, whilst the rest of us try to get on with our lives, personally I’m looking forward to the Rugby from Cape Town this afternoon
When all else fails, read the instructions.

The Pinky household had made a point of (so far successfully) avoiding any/all TV viewing of Olympic 'sport.'
Hasn't been all that difficult either.

It is with great regret and sorrow that I announce my withdrawal form the canine agility competition for the sake of my mental health.

Would type A or B or even AB (normal) have been better than the Olymphics?AtomKraft wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 10:17 amIs it just me?

I hope your blood pressure can be controlled as you read of Laurel Hubbard, kiwi weightlifter.

Haven’t seen one minute of the stupidity. It’s on CBC. We do not watch CBC in our household.
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".

Re: The O bloody lympics!
I watched the world weight lifting championships at the Cardiff National Sports Centre many years ago, and ended up sitting behind a group of huge Russians whose very presence seemed to dim the sun or maybe bend the light due to their gravitational warping of the space time continuum. Whatever the case, they tended to block our view of the auditorium, and more importantly, the stage, where preternatural feats of strength were occurring. Ultimately the afternoon was most memorable for a ruck in the carpet which seemed to trip up almost everybody who walked over it! It was as much a spectator sport as the weight liftingJohn Hill wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 12:28 amI hope your blood pressure can be controlled as you read of Laurel Hubbard, kiwi weightlifter.

Re: The O bloody lympics!
Crikey.
I thought the Olympics was supposed to be about physical excellence?
Ya know. Who can run 100 metres faster than any man- or woman?
Who can throw a Javelin the farthest, who can shoot or ski faster, better etc. than anyone in the entire World?
Now, I feel as sorry as the next guy for those who are disabled, but a special Olympics for the disabled?
It just debases the whole idea of Olympian excellence.
And it's about as interesting as watching paint drying.

Re: The O bloody lympics!
The Paralympics probably inspires more people, especially those with disabilities who perhaps otherwise would just be in despair. A difficulty is comparing disabilities to level the pitch.
We have held disability games every year.

Crack on then guys.
Yawn....
It's like everyone has a 'value', apart from ordinary people.
Disabled? Here's your disabled Olympics!
Gay? Here's your Gay Pride March!
Black? Here's your BLM march!
White and Heterosexual? Go and Fcuk yourself- and keep quiet while you do it please.

Re: The O bloody lympics!
Given some of your wilder utterances recently Atom, I was apt to wonder if we were dealing with a mental cripple in your case, but if, as I now suspect, you are dealing with self inflicted woe, I wish you the best and soon better. Remember that nobody is normal, or simply ordinary, and even if they were, that would be abnormal in itself!
We value you, even if your noodle is only up to playing mentally disturbed Ludo, very slowly at the moment! Everybody has a right to compete, even the Under 12 Rugby Union D team!

Re: The O bloody lympics!
I’ve worked quite a few times with Paralympian’s and they are some of the most inspiring people, that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, if you aren’t interested, don’t bother watching, you’ll be the one missing out.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Re: The O bloody lympics!
I have respect for all sports people, proper sport that is not say darts or snooker, those that are disabled have difficulties we can only imagine just getting from A to B, then they train to be elite at their chosen sport. Maximum respect.
Don't watch is the answer.

Re: The O bloody lympics!
Must admit watching some bird with massive great springs instead of feet win a medal for the long jump seems a bit absurd. Not a function of her ability but that of the smith who made the springs, shirley.
