Daring gyrocopter bid to cross Atlantic heads out from Wick airport

Two French aviators touched down at Wick airport as part of their daring, record-breaking bid to cross the Atlantic in a small gyrocopter.

It's a bit more sophisticated than the usual airborne tricycle!

What's the First Rule? - No Headwinds!

They are going to have to go a long way up the west coast of Greenland to find a 300 mile crossing - Sisimiut-Qikiqtarjuaq?

It's a Greenland keyboard, which automatically triples 'Q's,'I's,'K's and 'U's ;)))

Easy way to speak Greenland, swear like a Glaswegian whilst drinking a pint of 80/- at the same time.

My abiding memory of Greenland was passing through Narsarsuaq on one occasion with the 748 Coastguarder version. We did all the usual stuff, but were so concentrated on ensuring we had enough fuel and checking the TAFs for Canada, that yours truly forgot to clear the passports. Fearing we would be prevented from leaving, I took them to the immigration office and apologised for not presenting them earlier, joking that he might not let us leave. The immigration officer, clearly a direct descendant, flicked through them, and without looking up, handed them back and said "This is Greenland!"

Taken in June - note the ice floes in the fjord!
